Why The Email Opener “I hope you’re well.” Needs To Die
Last week alone I counted 13+ emails that landed in my inbox starting with those four words.
Beginning an email with “I hope you’re well.” is an outdated default opener that IMHO needs to die.
Though we’re all guilty of doing it….it might possibly be the most uncreative greeting you could say. It shows a lack of excitement, and attention to detail to begin every email the exact same boring way.
Emails and copy lacking in the creativity department will not only not get opened, they likely won’t merit a response.
Which email opener would you be more excited to respond to?
“I hope you’re well.”
Or
“I hope you’re having an awesome adventure somewhere, or just killing it on this last day of the week.”
If you want responses you need to get creative with your copy and that means taking 45 additional seconds and crafting an opener that you yourself would be excited to receive.
If you must include “I hope” here are some creative options below.
“I hope you’re having a two-coffee (versus a four-coffee) day.”
“I hope life is showering you with awesome goodness and abundance.”
“I hope you won the lottery, and maybe that’s why you haven’t responded to my email”.
